"Natura 2000 is a European network of protected natural sites. It was institutioned by the iniciative of the European Union and its objective is the proposal, on behalf of each member country, of a list of natural sites to be included in that network. Each country will compromise in adapting its national legislation so as to assure that such natural sites will be provided with an efficient and long lasting protection. Most of the European Union countries have already indicated their sites and respective percentage of territory to be protected. Among those, Denmark, the Netherlands, Greece, Italy and Luxemburg. What about those still behind in the process of doing so?" |
